Being Cool Ain’t Possible With A Sombrero Or Mickey Mouse Pants

What are you doing? Being “”cool.”" You look more like you’re being bored. The world bores you when you’re cool. Calvin backs against a tree. Hobbes comes by. He asks what Calvin does. Calvin says he’s being cool. Hobbes says it looks more like he’s being bored. Calvin says that that’s how the world is if you’re cool.

Look, I brought a sombrero! Now we can both be “”cool.”" A sombrero? Are you crazy?! Cool people don’t wear sombreros! Nobody wears sombreros! What fun is it being “”cool”" if you can’t wear a sombrero? Calvin still backs against a tree. Hobbes comes by and presents his new sombrero. He says that they are both cool now. Calvin disagrees strongly. Hobbes is dissappointed that he’s not cool.

I’m back. See. I put on some Mickey Mouse pants! I’ll be “”cool”" in these, boy. Just look at these big yellow buttons! Mickey Mouse pants?!? You don’t look cool! You look like an idiot! Hmph! Maybe I’m new wave. Maybe you’re just stupid. Hobbes proudly presents his new Mickey Mouse pants. He says we’ll be cool now. Calvin strongly disagrees. Hobbes says he’s new wave then. Calvin says he’s just stupid.
Actually I think Hobbes’ Sombrero is very cool. Now that I see it, I really want one. Blogger Edd McCracken posted that the first strip describes the tragedy of hipsters. That made me smile.
